Gunman shoots 9 in south Alabama, then himself

A gunman who killed at least nine people on a terrifying rampage across two Alabama counties has been identified as Michael McLendon of Kinston.

Coffee County Coroner Robert Preachers says McLendon's victims included members of his own family, as well as apparent strangers.

Preachers says the bloodshed began when McLendon burned down the home where he lived with his mother, Lisa McLendon. Officials found her body inside the house.

Police are investigating shootings in at least four different locations in three southern Alabama communities. Preachers says the other victims include McLendon's grandfather, aunt and uncle, as well as others he targeted as he drove by.
