Hillary, Obama debate in Philadelphia
For the first time in nearly two months, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama shared a stage in a presidential debate in Philadelphia.
Coming just days before the all-important Pennsylvania primary, the stakes were high, especially for the underdog Hillary, who sought this debate as an opportunity to try to change her fortunes in this race - a race that she is losing.
Obama leads the Democratic presidential campaign nationally but Hillary does lead in polls in Pennsylvania.
As expected, Hillary took every opportunity to try and raise doubts about Obama's electability in a presidential election against Republican Senator John McCain.
''I've been in this arena for a long time. I have a lot of baggage, and everybody has rummaged through it for years. And so, I have an opportunity to come to this campaign with a very strong conviction and feeling that I will be able to withstand whatever the Republicans send our way,'' Hillary said.
But, Obama was also not ready to give up and decided to take on Hillary in his own style.
''Look, there is no doubt that the Republicans will attack either of us. What I've been able to display during the course of this Primary, is that I can take a punch. I've taken some pretty good ones from Senator Clinton,'' he said.
And it was not only the two candidates who were involved in the debate. Their supporters also made use of the opportunity to show their loyalty.
''She was truly presidential. She was in command of the facts. She had vision and ideas. She was clear about where she wanted to go,'' says Ann Lewis, Senior Advisor for Hillary Clinton.
Thursday's face off was a battle of wills by both candidates hoping to dramatically change the dynamics of this campaign. But, as in this election till now, the finish line continues to be so close but yet too far.
